Lake Lyndon Baines Johnson (Lake LBJ)—Something for Everyone
It’s a premier waterskiing venue, nestled along the Colorado River just about 50 miles outside of Austin. Most mornings, the surface is like glass. With a depth of 90 feet, it offers some of the best fishing in the state of Texas. You’ll also see almost any type of watercraft on Lake LBJ, from jet skis and catamarans to luxury yachts. You’ll almost always find a party at Sunset Beach, as well as water volleyball and other fun.
Canyon Lake—The “Jewel” of the Texas Hill Country
For sheer natural beauty, there’s nothing like this reservoir on the Guadalupe River, conveniently near New Braunfels and San Marcos. Think of any type of water sports or fun—kayaking, jet skiing, boating, canoeing, rafting, parasailing or fishing. You can do it all here. You’ll find great restaurant and watering holes nearby, with lots of live music and other entertainment options. You’ll also find nearly 200 miles of hiking trails near the lake, as well as bicycling and horseback opportunities.
Lake Marble Falls—The Ultimate Green Space
Looking for parks for picnics and other family fun? Make this your destination. At Lakeside Park, you can fire up the barbeque, take a dip in the pool, or get a workout on the basketball and tennis courts. You’ll find one of the best skateparks in Texas at Falls Creek, or you can catch a rare glimpse of a golden-cheeked warbler or a black-capped vireo at the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. Visit historic Marble Falls for access to wineries, restaurants, art galleries and boutiques.
